Pre-K
This five day program meets Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 12:30 pm. There are no more than fourteen children to two teachers in the classroom. Children in this class will go on to Kindergarten the following year. This program provides the means for active learning and realizes that this age group can stay on projects and explore in depth for a longer time. They are given a wide variety of multi-level materials and a choice of learning areas. Children are free to explore, experiment, investigate and communicate. They are encouraged to assume responsibility, take initiative and express themselves in a positive way. Working as a group cooperatively and engaging in creative, sustained play, and learning to control impulsiveness are goals in preparation for their next year attending kindergarten. Literacy, oral dictation and expression of ideas are addressed through purposeful play. Walking trips and other enriching experiences are a part of the curriculum, as well as creative movement and outdoor play.
